Millions of gamers play "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn," and the growing number of subscribers and contents to explore make this game an ever-expanding one. This is why for many players, they are eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming expansion, "Heavensward."
At this year's Penny Arcade Expo, Square Enix made it known that the latest expansion will hit the shelves on June 23. Also, the company announced that pre-orders for the game will allow players to have an access as early as June 19.
The expansion pack already has the massive Eorzean landscape ready to be explored, but developers have added much more to this update to the "Final Fantasy XIV" title. "Heavensward" will introduce players to flying mounts like aerial chocobos and single rider airships, thereby getting players across the huge landscape three times faster. The Eorzean map is also made to be at least 1.5 times larger than the original.
According to producer and director Naoki Yoshida, there are also plans to expand the number of servers for the game to accommodate the expanding number of subscribers to this "Final Fantasy" MMO. The title recently celebrated a landmark with its four million registered accounts.
"The number of subscriptions doesn't necessarily affect the development of the game, since the number of people who can enter a certain zone or server is limited," he said. "There may be opportunities to increase the number of servers to accommodate more players, but the content itself aren't affected by the number of people playing."
Square Enix is set to release three different versions of the "Hevensward" update pack. The standard edition is for those who strictly want to play the expansion. Meanwhile, an all-in-one version is for those who haven't purchased the original "Final Fantasy XIV" title. Finally, there will be a Collector's Edition that will have bundled freebies and in-game extras. All versions will be available for pre-orders starting March 16.
