'Fallout 4' update: Game to do away with level cap

"Fallout 4" Bethesda Softworks

Fans of the post-apocalyptic game series "Fallout" have more reasons to be excited for the upcoming installment in the franchise. Aside from the riveting story and an updated gameplay, they will also be able to explore "Fallout 4" even after the story ends. In addition, there will be no level cap so gamers can keep on updating their characters as they continue playing.

Developer Bethesda Game Studios announced this bit of good news on Twitter, answering the query which would have been one of the most-asked by legions of fans.

The company stated, "To fans who've asked: Fallout 4 doesn't end when the main story is and over and there is no level cap. You can keep playing and leveling."

One of the many features of an open-world, exploration role-playing title is that characters level up as they progress, and more items, gears, and weapons are unlocked as the player's level goes up. However, most of the current titles have level caps in place, and once the main story finishes, the game ends. On the other hand, there are also titles with level caps but also has the near open-ended gameplay. Another Bethesda title, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," allows players to complete the main story first, but the game will not end since there are still a number of side quests which players can take on.

Removing the level caps and having an open-ended title is a first for "Fallout," and Bethesda had already given a hint of the significant changes relating to character and enemy levels back in this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo event.

In an interview with observer Game Informer, game director Todd Howard said, "We call it rubberbanding; we'll have an area (where enemies scale from) level 5 to 10, and then this area will be level 30 and above."

"Fallout 4" will be released for current-gen consoles and the PC on Nov. 10.
