'Elder Scrolls 6' release date: next installment may be very different from predecessors

It may still be early to talk about "Elder Scrolls 6" as the game is likely still absent even after a couple of years. However, rumor mills continue to churn out more speculations about the game.

As per the latest reports, the follow-up to the massive hit "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" is believed to be different from its predecessor due to the way Sony handles mods.

According to Gaming Bolt, it is possible that developer Bethesda Games will change its approach on the addition of such feature in "Elder Scrolls 6" considering Sony's stance.

The publication believes that this change could either make the game not as flexible as the ones before it since the use of mods might be limited.

This means that although Microsoft will likely allow such feature on their console for "Elder Scrolls 6," Bethesda will have to compromise due to Sony's feelings about mods.

However, another possibility is that Bethesda will look at Microsoft's willingness to allow mods to somehow pressure Sony into finally allowing the feature.

Whatever the case will be, the idea of Sony declining mod integration to "Elder Scrolls 6" or any other Bethesda titles will change how Bethesda put their offerings together.

Early last month, Bethesda announced that Sony refused to release the PS4 mods to the "Fallout 4" and "Skyrim" remaster "the way they should work," which basically allows gamers to add just about anything on the games.

Bethesda was not happy about the decision and noted how much work they put in for the mods, not to mention the long wait PS4 players were subjected to.

As for the release date of "Elder Scrolls 6," Bethesda has already said that they will work on two massive games first before they begin the development of the game.

They also said that they won't provide any information until the game is ready, which means it will be a long while before solid details about the game come out.

Bethesda's vision for "Elder Scrolls 6" requires greater and more advanced technology, which is why the company may have decided to wait it out.

Reports suggest that a 2020 release could be the earliest that Bethesda could go.
