Ed Sheeran engagement news: Singer engaged to childhood friend Cherry Seaborn

Ed Sheeran has revealed his secret engagement to childhood friend Cherry Seaborn.

In an Instagram post last Saturday, the multi-Grammy award winner announced to his over 19 million fans that they have been engaged for a month.

"Got myself a fiance just before new year," he said on the social media platform. "We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chaffed as well." This was posted alongside a retro photo of Sheeran kissing Seaborn in the cheek.

The news comes just a few months after Sheeran released his single "Perfect," which was inspired by his girlfriend of three years. Part of its lyrics says, "Well I found a woman, stronger than anyone I know / She shares my dreams, I hope that someday I'll share her home." With the song, the 26-year-old musician already told his millions of fans worldwide that he has found the one.

Sheeran and 24-year-old Seaborn have been friends since he was 11, when they were both attending Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk. The then future superstar already had a crush on Seaborn at that time.

They re-connected in 2015, when Seaborn was working as a consultant in Wall Street and Sheeran had several shows around New York. Their love affair, however, started because of Sheeran's bestfriend Taylor Swift.

In an interview with People in early 2017, the "A-team" crooner shared that it happened on Swift's famous Independence Day fete. They were both celebrating the fourth of July in separate parties in Rhode Island when he invited her over to Swift's and in the musician's words, "the rest is history."

A note to fans, though, Sheeran's engagement could signify that he will not be just soon off the market but also off the airwaves. Talking to Daily Star, the singer revealed that he will have other priorities once he starts a family.

"My ambition is going to go to zero as soon as I have kids," he said "I am going to be like, 'I do not really care anymore as I have another life to take care of.'"

If he plans to follow his original timeline, that is in about four years. He has earlier told media outlets that he hopes to have children by the time he turns 30.
