'Dragon Ball Super' premiere date in July, Goku to face a 'mysterious' character

 Toei Animation

After 18 years, Goku will finally return to the small screen to battle another wave of evil forces that threaten the peace of the world he vowed to protect. "Dragon Ball Super" will continue the television-changing long-running saga with a new baddie on the rise.

An official website and a Twitter account, both in Japanese, have already been set up for the upcoming anime series. Attack of the Fanboy translated the said description for "Dragon Ball Super" posted on the latter, which reveals that "a more mysterious character" is on the way.

There is no way of knowing who or what the new villain will be. However, it is heavily speculated that Goku and the gang's next adversary is another "god" simply because there should be another power-hungry deity out and about the massive "Dragon Ball" universe.

The description also proves that the previous "Dragon Ball Z" films were taken into consideration in the crafting of the story. The Twitter account mentioned Beerus and Frieza, whom Goku engaged in a full-on warfare in "Battle of the Gods" and "Resurrection 'F'," respectively.

"Dragon Ball Super" is getting a counterpart manga series, too, which is being developed by seasoned "Dragon Ball" manga artist Toyotaro and creator Akira Toriyama. The manga series will be released on June 20 through V-Jump Magazine, which is the same portal used to serve up the news.

An image of Goku in the manga was released just recently. The hero looks a lot younger and his boots a bit changed but overall, he is the same Goku that can beat up Majin Buu and Frieza single-handedly.

"Dragon Ball Super" will premiere in July on Fuji TV. It will be aired every Sunday at 9 a.m. There is still no word regarding the release date of the series outside Japan but fans are assured that the series will cross the borders of its home fort to share Goku's new story.

The series will be set years after Majin Buu was defeated, with Earth finally cradled in peace once more.
