'Destiny' tips: How to survive Prison of Elders

When the second expansion of the futuristic shooter "Destiny" rolled out, one of the new features that it brought is a new playing mode.

"Prison of Elders" is a new wave-style arena mode for "House of Wolves," the second expansion pack rolled out by developer Bungie. In the new arena, a three-man Guardian team must defend themselves against hordes of enemies, each wave becoming increasingly difficult. The challenge also brings out several high-level bosses, and even the most hardcore of "Destiny" players find the new mode almost impossible to conquer.

Although Bungie has announced that they will be toning down the last boss at the level 35 wave to make it easier for players to finish "Prison of Elders," most Guardians still need tips on how to survive the latest horde arena brought by the new expansion for "Destiny."

Most veterans agree that while "Prison of Elders" is tough, there is some sort of a pattern to it that players just need to anticipate in order to formulate a strategy and strike through enemy waves. For example, a typical first wave for a non-boss round is focused on combat and survival, while the second and third waves introduce some objectives. Guardians just need to zealously fight their way out of the first wave, and concentrate more on strategizing for the next two, since the last waves' objectives are timed ones.

The loads of each member of the fireteam is also important, expecially for boss rounds. The team should have an extensive array of armaments, with the ideal loadout a weapon in each class for every elemental type. This is to cover a broad range of elemental weakness for enemy factions.

Communications is also vital to survival. Guardians must make sure that they have mics for real-time strategizing and quick responses. This would make their attacks much more fluid and adaptable for enemy waves, particularly for the objective rounds and boss levels.
