Actor David Arquette opened up about his life as a father to son, Charlie, and daughter, Coco, in a recent interview.

Arquette and his fiancée, actress Christina McLarty, welcomed Charlie in April, and Arquette said his son has made him a better dad.

"Fatherhood the second time around is so great because I have learned from my past mistakes," the 43-year-old told PEOPLE at Art Basel Miami on Wednesday.

"I am older and more mature and can return to raising a baby more aware of the wonderful daily experiences," he explained. "Watching Charlie crawl is a milestone in my life."

Coco, 10, is Arquette's daughter with ex-wife Courteney Cox. The couple's divorce was finalised in May 2013 after a nearly three-year separation.

"Since Charlie has come into my life, I love Coco more than ever," Arquette said of his daughter. "Having a son has brought back memories and made me realise how much I miss enjoying her as a baby."

The actor is the youngest sibling in the Arquette family, which includes actors Patricia, Rosanna, Alexis, and Richmond. He is best known for starring in the "Scream" horror series, and the 1999 romantic comedy "Never Been Kissed."

Arquette has several films in production, including the Kurt Russell horror western "Bone Tomahawk," a comedy about online dating, "Casual Encounters," and a drama, "Evan's Crime."

The actor is also a writer, director, and producer, but said his most important role is being a father.

"Having Charlie fall asleep on my chest is the best part of my day," he said, "I love it. This whole experience has been amazing."
