'Dark Souls 3' DLC news update: No new content planned beyond the release of two announced expansion packs

The upcoming expansions for "Dark Souls 3" will make for the end of the action role-playing video game series for the meantime, at least.

While developer From Software does not have plans to release downloadable content (DLC) beyond the pair of DLCs they announced, the studio is not closing its doors on the game for good, at least not yet.

In an interview with Polygon, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki declared that "it's time to move away from the 'Dark Souls' franchise."

However, he did emphasize that he is "not completely denying the possibility of bringing back the franchise in the future," and this could happen in the form of "Dark Souls 3" DLCs.

"There could be someone else in my company who wants to work on new installments. But we believe that the series will end after the two DLC," he went on to say.

Miyazaki said that his team is more inclined in releasing remasters or remakes of its previous "Dark Souls" installments rather than releasing a "Dark Souls 3" DLC.

The executive emphasized that everything they learned in putting together the "Dark Souls" franchise will be used in making new intellectual property (IP).

"We'd like to carry over some of the good things from the franchise to new products," Miyazaki said, adding that new technology will help them reinvent the experience.

"Ashes of Ariandel," the first of the two "Dark Souls 3" DLCs included in the game's Season Pass, is now on pre-order for $14.99. It will be released on Oct. 25.

Set in the snowy terrains of Ariandel, the expansion will include new areas to explore as well as new bosses and enemies to fight. Brand new weapons, armor sets, and magic spells will also be available to help players deal with the fresh breed of foes.

There is no news about the second "Dark Souls 3" DLC, although it is believed to be released next year.
