Those who are attending the Coachella Music Festival event this year may be disappointed to know that marijuana has been banned from the concert grounds, despite it being legal in the state of California -- which is where the event is taking place. This news has disappointed fans, who are looking forward to using marijuana and its related products since the legalization of the drug in California last Jan. 1.
Despite being legalized on the very first day of this year, Coachella addressed the question of bringing marijuana to the concert grounds through its frequently asked questions (FAQ) page by stating that "Sorry bro. Marijuana and marijuana products aren't allowed inside [the festival]. Even in 2018 and beyond. If that changes, we'll update this answer." Coachella will be held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, which is a private property.
However, despite that, the organizers still prohibit would-be marijuana users from blazing a doobie on their grounds.
The page links those who are asking the same question to another site that explains in great detail as to why the drug is still not allowed in the music festival. The organizers over at Goldenvoice, who are the promoters of the event, still reserve the right to decide on what is allowable for their private event. As it turns out, even those with medical marijuana cards are also prohibited from bringing the drug to the festival.
Notably, people who are 21 years of age and above are allowed to smoke marijuana -- albeit, in private areas. This means that even if the concert attendees have both a marijuana card and valid identification, being caught with marijuana can still get them kicked out of the concert grounds. The security personnel will have boxes at the entrance of Coachella where people can deposit their stash of marijuana or other prohibited items.
The Coachella Music Festival is scheduled to occur on April 13 to 20.
