Sadly, it seems that CM Punk fans have been waiting for a comeback that will never happen. Ten months after he was eliminated from the Royal Rumble match in January, CM Punk (real name Phil Brooks) has not set foot inside the ring. From that time, the champion wrestler remained hushed, until now. In a 2-hour interview with Colt Cabana in "An Art of Wrestling," CM Punk declared with a strong conviction that WWE is a thing of the past for him.
"There's no working relationship, and there never will be ever again," Punk announced.
CM Punk revealed that WWE sent him his termination papers on the same day he wed WWE diva AJ Lee back in June.
"I was fired, on my wedding day. Very calculated, very deliberate. As much as I chuckled at it and didn't let it affect my day, I was like once again, you pushed too [expletive] far. You pushed the wrong guy," Punk said.
As per IB Times, his contract was supposed to last until July. But then, fans will recall that the Chicago local walked out from WWE in January this year. Nevertheless, the wrestler does not intend to associate himself with wrestling, much less with WWE, in the future.
Despite the mounting grudge, Punk also iterated that his health is starting to impair him even more as he acquired a staph infection from a concussion he got during his Royal Rumble stint. He revealed that the company cleared him to engage into a match without him being able to consult a physician for it. In the same podcast interview, he let people know that WWE obviously had something to do with it, too.
"WWE doesn't do anything to protect the wrestlers. They do things to protect themselves. They don't let everybody know that they're doing all these fantastic things for concussions for the boys," Punk said.
"They do it so it looks good on them in the public," he then added.
In turn, WWE released a statement addressing just that on the whole, as it had not singled out Punk's statements.
"WWE takes the health and wellness of its talent very seriously and has a comprehensive Talent Wellness Program that is led by one of the most well-respected physicians in the country, Dr. Joseph Maroon," the company told Yahoo! Sports.
All hope seems to be lost but Bleacher Report believes that the feud, even as unworkable as this is, can be healed through time. The site mentioned Bret Hart and The Ultimate Warrior who, despite their sworn never-ending resentment to WWE, have found a way to revisit the ring. As of now, that is still far-fetched for Punk, as the crowd-favorite wrestler expressed how happy he is to have abandoned wrestling.
"I'm the [expletive] happiest I've been in at least three years," he said. "I thought this thing that I loved, that I thought I loved, it just made me so miserable all the time. When you boil it all down, I was miserable. I was unhappy. [expletive] it, I made myself happy. I left. It wasn't an easy decision to make, but it was also a long time coming."
