The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to re-sign most of its players for next season, led no less by Lebron James and Kevin Love.
Other players that the Cavs plan to bring back include Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert and Matthew Delladedova while the case of JR Smith is still up in the air since he does carry a hefty price.
But other than the Cavs roster, the team is expected to take a look at other free agents available in the market. And one player that James is reportedly keen on getting is Mike Dunleavy who played for the Chicago Bulls last year.
Dunleavy, 35, is someone who can hit it from outside. Apparently the Cavs are in need of outside shooters to help free up the middle which would free up some space inside.
This is of course with the assumption that the Chicago Bulls would not be re-signing Dunleavy. There is strong belief that Dunleavy may likely be re-signed by the Bulls though nothing has been made official for now.
Negotiations between teams and free agent players can only commence starting 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and contracts can only be signed starting July 9.
Dunleavy earned $3.3 million last year and his asking price (mini midlevel exception) could likely be fit given the stiff salary cap that the Cavs have to work with.
The latest word however is that Bulls are offering Mike Dunleavy a three-year contract worth $14.4 million, with the final year having a partial guarantee.
Just like what the Cavs were looking for, Dunleavy joined the Bulls in 2013 to provide some outside sniping for the ballclub. Considered to be one of the premier shooters of the league, Dunleavy has shot well over 40% from the three-point region in the past seasons and such has apparently earned him a new longer deal.
With that said, the Cavs may have to look for someone else since their pursuit for Dunleavy is now practically useless.
