Christmas 2014: Movies on TV - Home Alone, Elf, Christmas Carol, The Christmas Story and more

During the Christmas season, TV networks let out their inner Santa by airing fine films and great episodes of well-loved shows during the celebration. For those who would like to spend good hours of the festivity with their families encircling their television screens, this is the guide that will help make the most of it.

Viewers will get to see Ralphie Parker's adventures in "The Christmas Story." which TBS will air every two hours on Christmas Day starting at 6 a.m. EST. ABC Family will air the 1974 animated series "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" at 8:30 a.m. By 7 p.m., the network will put on Will Ferrell's 2003 film titled "Elf," which follows Buddy's (in complete elf garb) quest to New York in search of his real father. Over at FX Movie, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge who frowns heavily upon the holiday in "A Christmas Carol" will be aired at 5 p.m. For a dose of the Christmas spirit eschewers, viewers can follow Luther (Tim Allen) and Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) in "Christmas With the Kranks" at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.

As Christmas drifts into nighttime, ABC will attempt to "ruin and crush" the holiday spirit by putting out the tale of the Christmas hater in the 1966 film "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at 8 p.m. The year 2000 adaptation of the same movie with Jim Carrey as the reclusive green character who detests the special day will shortly follow. Christmas movie madness will not be complete without Macaulay Culkin's cuteness and big adventures in "Home Alone" to be aired by ABC Family at 9 p.m. on Christmas day, and right after it, there will be "Home Alone 3."

Those who would like to be treated with good music for the night can switch to NBC and allow Grammy award winner Michael Bublé serenade them in his fourth holiday special "Michael Bublé's Christmas In New York" to be aired at 7 p.m. Special guests will be there to croon with the singer, too.
