Actress Stana Katic made fans panicky when she did not immediately sign up for "Castle" season 8. Nevertheless, the actress is still on board and Deadline reports that she will do double duty this season by also serving as the producer.

With regard to her measured decision to reprise her role as Kate Beckett, she told the above-mentioned publication, "Part of my thought process making the decision whether to do another season was creatively, what would that would look like."

She also added that "Castle" creator Andrew Marlowe was a big consideration as he was the one who shaped her character. But with new showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter on board for "Castle" season 8, Katic is assured that the duo will be remarkable in continuing Kate's story.

"I started to feel the character would be safe in the next chapter of Castle. I felt confident that they knew the story, the character — Terence has been on the show since Day 1, and some of the most interesting episodes for my character were penned by Alexi," she explained. "And while they are eager to shake things up and aim at telling challenging stories, they would also protect the integrity of the character."

She also expressed her excitement on the showrunners' approach on the mythology of why and how Castle and Kate came together. She believes that in season 8, Rick's memory loss and disappearance and Kate's decision to become a cop have been envisioned by Hawley and Winter in a "cosmic way."

When asked about returning for another season, Katic said that if her character has more stories with "a creatively fulfilling experience," it will always be a pleasure to tell.

Katic's character is rumored to make a career change and will run for New York State Senate.

"Castle" season 8 begins Sept. 21.
