If everything falls into place, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will be facing Miguel Cotto on Cinco de Mayo, May 2, 2015. And while Alvarez has many options as to whom he could fight, Alvarez prefer to fight Cotto as he sets his eyes on the latter's middleweight belt. This was relayed by his manager, Jose Reynoso.

"We want it for the title that Miguel Cotto has. That's what we are looking for, to fight for his title," Reynoso said via BoxingScene.

However this fight could all depend on Cotto who is reportedly in talks to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. for $40 million. However, Bob Arum denied that any such negotiation is on the table. In fact Arum bares that they are pushing for a fight with Alvarez, not Mayweather.

Apparently Arum wants to fulfill the much longed for dreambout between Mayweather and Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao.

"That is nonsense," Arum said of the rumored negotiation for the Mayweather-Cotto rematch. "It's just not true, we're negotiating with Cotto to finalize this fight with Canelo and we've been absolutely assured that's not true."

Arum adds that an official should be made come January 2015.

But all that could change if Mayweather chooses to hold out once more. If that happen, the likelihood of seeing a Cotto-Mayweather rematch would seem feasible considering Mayweather's history of avoiding a faceoff with Pacquiao.

Despite all these, Alvarez' manager remains confident that an Alvarez-Cotto fight will push through.

"It's one of the most anticipated fights out there. The media has shown their interest for a long time," Reynoso said. "I think it would be a very interesting fight based on the aspects of the two fighters. Cotto is a fighter of experience, with great prestige; while Saul is on track to be the best and is still gaining experience."
