Boxing News 2015: Are prospects dim for Kell Brook vs. Brandon Rios?

The camp of undefeated boxer Kell Brook is reportedly trying to work out a deal for a fight against Brandon Rios at the O2 Arena in London on September 12, but talks have stalled over the rematch clause .

Eddie Hearn is still trying to work out the details of the match with Top Rank, and negotiations are reportedly close though there is as yet no official word on whether the fight is on.

However, Hearn is unfazed in case the Brook vs. Rios bout does not materialize. In fact, the handler of Brook says he already has a backup plan for October in case the September 12 fight does not push through.

bating about is the rematch clause which Brook wants for the fight to go as planned.

It is Brook who, despite his impressive 35-0 record, 24 by KO, who is insisting on the rematch clause. Is he wary of Rios after the latter's third round KO win over Mike Alvarado last January?

In that fight, Rios put on an impressive display against his friend outside the ring. The bout came to an abrupt end when referee Jay Nady waved off the fight as Alvarez looked battered and had problems with his vision in the third round.

The camp of Rios is reportedly not too keen on a rematch clause since it would deprive him of fighting other opponents with possibly bigger purses in the welterweight division.

Agreeing to the clause will mean Rios will eventually have to return to London and face Brook again should he hand the British boxer the first defeat of his career.

Unless the rematch clause issue is settled, it doesn't look like Rios will fight Brook. So what could the backup plan be? Will it have something to do with the interest expressed by the camp of former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao?
