The Boston Celtics are set to have two preseason games in Europe but it appears that head coach Brad Stevens doesn't really have something special cooking.
The Celtics will be facing two top European ballclubs — Olympia Milano and Real Madrid. The stint should provide NBA fans a glimpse of things to come, although it will all depend on how Stevens plans to utilize his bench, old and new.
One thing that is for sure, he will be doing a lot of experimenting on player combinations. But he does go on to say that such doesn't necessarily translate to who will start and who will come off (or be in) the bench.
"You try to mix and match the best that you can, so we'll see. Ideally, when you sit in meetings right now, you say 'Yeah, I'd like to be able to change starting lineups all the time,' and all that stuff, but we'll see if that fits in a plan and in reality see if it can work. I don't know. Right now, I'm a lot more focused on, whoever is in the game, how they're playing," says Stevens when asked about his plans for the European stint via the Boston Herald.
Certainly, the Celtics are not headed over there to see mainly the sights. The trip is part of their preparations for the coming season.
The Celtics will open their campaign against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 28.
The trip is seen as a team building of sorts while also measuring the efficiency of the team with its current lineup.
The Celtics are, of course, looking formidable and are aiming to duplicate their feat last year which saw them enter the NBA playoffs despite having a rowdy regular season that saw major personnel changes.
