The Boston Celtics are expected to get someone at the least in the coming NBA Draft though it remains to be seen if they have scouted and properly screened potential prospects once their turn comes around.
The Celtics have the 16th and 28th picks in the draft and much of the players they have already seen may not even reach the 16th pick.
The latest word on who the Celtics were able to work out six power forwards which included Montrezl Harrell of Louisville. But it is believed that these players may not even be around by the time it would be the Celtics turn to select.
So is the 16th selection of the Celtics headed to futility?
With the NBA Draft practically days away, Director of Personnel Austin Ainge is left in a bind right now since most of their invitees believe that they can be selected before the 16th selection. Some are of course optimistic while others are being realistic.
But the thing is, the Celtics cannot sit back and wait to see who may still be available but that is just the reality of it all. As it is right now, all that Ainge and the Celtics can do right now is keep their finger crossed.
If there is one player the Celtics have their eyes on, it may be on Arkansas power forward Bobby Portis.
Portis is a good rebounder and reportedly has a nasty demeanor which could make him a perfect fit beside Marcus Smart and Jae Crowder. But there is a possibility he could not be available by the 16th pick so the Celtics are left to wait and see.
Are the draft prospects being picky or are they purposely avoiding the Celtics?
The answer to that is that many are looking towards being selected in the top 15 and with the Celtics selecting at 16th, priority has been made on teams which are selecting ahead.
Of course it may still be too early since the players could have a change of heart and hopefully the Celtics will have enough time to see who they could possibly get their hands on once NBA Draft Night kicks off on June 25, 2015.
