Best Chromebooks of 2014: Best from HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer, and Dell

Lenovo N20p Lenovo

Chromebooks are slowly stealing the limelight in the showground. For a much affordable price, buyers can get a hold of a useful Chrome OS-powered laptop with excellent performance that can keep up with their work and Internet browsing needs. There is a rich array of Chromebooks in the market to choose from. In a roundup by PC Advisor, five Chromebooks released in 2014 has by far risen above the others, with distinct features that meet and even exceed what is expected of cut-rate devices. Those who are in search for a new machine with a small shell out requirement may find one or two in this list as their perfect match.

First one to grace the list is the Lenovo N20p. PC Advisor lauds its good looks, thin body and useful 10-point multi-touch screen ability. It houses an Intel Celeron processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 16 GB storage capacity. However, the site broached the poorness of the keyboard that somehow becomes a constant irk. In other reviews though, its keyboard and the touchpad bear no such issue and are, in fact, deemed to deliver excellent performance especially for such an economical machine. Furthermore, the 11.6-inch machine allows users to work and play for eight hours in a single juice up session. The Lenovo N20p attaches a $330 price tag.

PC Advisor loves the lightness (1.5 kg) of the Toshiba CB30-102. The 13-inch Chromebook is Toshiba's entry to the competition. Many believe that this offering and Google is a match made in hybrid heaven as it reportedly almost feels like a device designed to run Google services in the most efficient fashion. It bears an Intel Celeron 2955U processor and 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB memory. Toshiba CB30-102 is available for users to utilize for eight hours and 30 minutes. Buyers of this machine are looking at a $300 price.

The Acer C720p Chromebook once held the title of being the king of the budget Chromebooks. Whether users plan to fix up some documents and spreadsheets or browse their favorite websites, this is the machine that will do. This Acer offering is also a touchscreen-enabled device that can go on for about nine hours of usage. It comes with an Intel Celeron 2955U dual-core processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. The great thing about the Acer C720p Chromebook is that it doubles most of the storage capacity of its rivals in the turf with its 32 GB memory. The best part — this Chromebook only costs $300.

The HP Chromebook 14, as PC Advisor remarked, lets users enjoy Chrome in a slightly augmented level. While existing Chromebooks always seem to go for an 11.6-inch display, Hewlett Packard defied the trend by popping in a 14-inch screen to its device. In turn, web pages are put on a grander view and it eliminates the amount of squinting when working on smaller Chromebooks. Those whose wishes are composed of a touchscreen sizeable Chromebook are granted with its optional touch-enabled variant. It also has an NVIDIA Tegra K1 mobile processor, 4 GB RAM and 16 GB of memory onboard. Its $300 price tag is no doubt the cherry on the top.

The Dell Chromebook 11 "connects you to your business easily." In PC Advisor's list, Dell's first entry to the Chromebook competition snags the top spot. The site believes that when the company broke new ground with the Dell Chromebook 11, people got what they want from a Chromebook. It is impressively speedy and effortlessly handy. All that while being all sleek and streamlined. Under the hood, a fourth generation Intel Core i3-4005U processor resides. Part of its anatomy is 4 GB of RAM that doubles what most of its contenders bring to the table. For a perk, it's good to know that it features a pair of USB 3.0 ports. How much is this champion device? This beasty Chromebook is in the market for only $300.
