Apple Watch 3 release date, specs rumors: third iteration rumored to use wrist motion gesture control?

The Apple Watch 2 has just been released, but fans are already looking forward to the Apple Watch 3, which is rumored to come with a whole host of exciting features.

According to a patent filed by the Cupertino-based company at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple is looking into the possibility of incorporating gesture control on the Apple Watch 3.

How this feature works is that it will detect wrist movements or motions, which will then activate certain controls or commands on the wearable.

"The interpretation is based in part on the detected force and in part on whether the user's arm is in motion; and invoking a function of the wrist-worn device based on the wrist gesture," the description stated.

If used on the Apple Watch 3, the smartwatch will set off specific commands when the user turns their wrist or put pressure in it.

An example provided by Tech Times is that Apple can incorporate a command to make a phone call when a user gestures in a way that they are dialing a number to call.

The feature will also allow Apple Watch 3 users to simply do a combination of different hand motions to, for example, turn the volume of the music up or down.

When integrated into the Apple Watch 3, the smartwatch will definitely be more independent than its predecessors, which often rely on a smartphone to do certain tasks.

However, it is important to note that although it presents tons of potential for the Apple Watch 3, there is no confirmation yet if this patent will be used as the basis for making the device.

Patents do not always end up being used on final products, so this might be one of them, and it might be too early to paint a picture of the Apple Watch 3.

For now, the focus is on the Apple Watch Nike+ which is set for release on Oct. 28.
