The rumored Apple Watch 2 is said to offer mobile connectivity, which means that certain apps would be functional even without an iPhone connected to it, aside from having a faster processor.
The Apple Watch turned one year old last Sunday, and speculations are rife as to what the next smartwatch will offer. Previous rumors have already mentioned that it will be more independent from the iPhone, and this rumor was reinforced when Wall Street Journal published a report saying that the Cupertino-based tech giant will be featuring a mobile network connectivity, according to their sources familiar with the company's activities.
This kind of feature is not that new. LG and Samsung smartwatches have had this feature for quite some time already and many users have seen the advantages of having one. The Samsung Gear S2 and LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition have cell-network connectivity, and they take advantage of activities that do not really require a mobile phone. Owners of these gadgets can receive and send messages and calls straight from their smartwatches being forwarded from their phone numbers attached to their cellular phones.
Additionally, GPS service and streaming music is said to also be available on the Apple Watch 2 with the mobile connectivity feature. However, this will also require an additional data plan.
Macrumors also added that a recent announcement made by Apple, that watchOS apps must be a native application, meaning built with the watchOS 2 SDK or later. This decision will allow the Apple Watch applications to run smoothly and launch quickly. The announcement will take effect on June 1, which is a little less than two weeks before Apple's Wordwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) where it is rumored to showcase the company's latest version of the iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS. The conference will take place from June 13 to 17 in San Francisco .
The Apple Watch 2 is said to be sporting much-improved internals, including a faster processor, which is rumored to be emphasis on the build. Physical changes is expected to not be as prominent on the unannounced smartwatch.
The tech giant has not mentioned any official word about its Apple Watch 2.
