iPad mini 4 release date, specs: tablet to have slim build

The iPad Mini 3. Rumors say that its successor will be unveiled some time in the middle of this year. Apple.com

The latest of the Apple iPad mini lineup is said to be the thinnest one yet. A leaked image courtesy of trusty tipster OnLeaks showed an alleged case of the iPad mini 4 and hinted on the device's slim body. But it is not just a design overhaul Apple is said to be doing for the tablet.

In addition, the design will reportedly resemble that of the iPad Air 2. The device will only have a single row of speaker holes. Also, there are rumors that the Cupertino-based company is taking away the mute button and is replacing with a small microphone.

The classy thinness also comes with a major upgrade under the hood. As per reports, the iPad mini 4 will house 2GB of RAM and an A9 processor that's coupled with an M9 co-processor. This is said to be Apple's response to users who thought that the current iPad mini flagship isn't much of an upgrade.

It is also expected that the iPad mini 4 will come in a 7.9-inch Retina display and will run iOS 9, which is being furnished by Apple at the moment. It is also touted to keep its Touch ID fingerprint scanner to cater to the integration of the Apple Pay mobile payment service on the device.

While storage will likely be the same, it is expected that users will enjoy the iPad mini 4 longer with a much more powerful and bigger battery unit to be equipped on the device.

It goes without saying to take the rumors with a pinch of salt as Apple is yet to make the iPad mini 4 official. But in the event the company introduces another entry in the lineup, Tech Times says that it will most likely be released with together with other unannounced devices iPad Air 3 and the rumored giant tablet referred to as the iPad Pro.
