Android 6.0 Marshmallow release date for LG G4

 LG Newsroom

South Korea-based LG Electronics announced that one of its flagships is set to receive the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow next week.

According to a statement released to the press, the LG G4 will be the first device outside of the Nexus lineup to get the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. However, the update will be a small, targeted one – only G4 users in Poland will be able to receive the update. Meanwhile, other G4 users from Europe, Asia, and America can also expect an early rollout of the platform. The details for the update will be cascaded to individual consumer markets.

Speaking about the early Android 6.0 adaptation, Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications Company, said that the tech manufacturer partnered with Google for the update. "By working closely with Google, LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4 ahead of any of our competitors."

Yie added that contrary to previous versions of Android, where the rollout took some time for the updates to make it to LG devices, the early migration of the G4 to the new Android platform is LG's one way of satisfying its consumer market. "While speed alone isn't an indicator of great service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG is committed to its existing customers first."

One of the many issues with Google's Android platform is the long time it takes for updates to trickle down to the consumer. Although Google has already published a new platform, both smartphone manufacturers and mobile carriers test out and build their own versions of the new platform. This test phase takes weeks, even months, with consumers anxiously waiting for the result. Sometimes, the update takes so long to release that it is overtaken by a newer, next-gen Android platform version.
