More and more Android devices are getting updated to Android Lollipop. Soon, the Asus ZenFone 2 will get the update as well. According to Android Soul, Android 5.1 Lollipop is almost ready to be rolled out to the ZE550ML version of the device, the model with 2 GB of RAM and an Intel Atom Z3560 chipset.

The news was confirmed via a chat inside the Asus Support app wherein a customer service agent revealed that the update for the device is in final testing. However, a specific rollout date has not yet been revealed.

Although only one model is getting the software soon, the aforementioned site says that this is still good news to the rest of Asus ZenFone 2 users simply because it indicates that their own variants are close to joining the Lollipop movement, too.

Asus evidently lags behind other companies when it comes to bumping up its smartphones to Android Lollipop. It took months for some of its handsets in the ZenFone lineup to get the new OS version, but with Asus ZenFone 2 up for an upgrade, the Taiwanese company is clearly stepping up its game.

The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML is the entry-level version of its flagship. This handset comes with a 5.5-inch display that generates a decent 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. It also offers 16 GB of storage. Media outlets commend Asus for starting with the base model rather than the premium one.

Speaking of premium, it is still unclear when the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML, which is touted as the first ever smartphone to have 4 GB of RAM onboard, will be upgraded to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Media outlets trust it will follow shortly after its sibling completes the sweet makeover.
