LG G2 to finally get Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

The LG G2 may be over two years old but the South Korea-based manufacturer wouldn't want it to miss a sweet treat. This is why the company is reportedly planning to roll out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its previous flagship, which was allegedly confirmed by an LG employee to Android Pit

According to Android Pit, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is now being prepared for the LG G2. This update will have owners of the handset enjoying the tech firm's very own UX 4.0 interface and software tweaks only available to the LG G4, the current flagship, at the moment.

This isn't much of a stretch for LG. A couple of months back, the company prioritized the LG G2 and updated it to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop before newer flagships and smartphones got the same treatment. Thus, having it don Google's latest build is no surprise.

Of course, with still no official statement from LG, a changelog is still absent so the concrete changes are still unclear. As far as the custom Android interface is concerned, Tech Times points out that the onscreen buttons have been redesigned to match Lollipop but the icons look identical to those in the LG G3.

As great as these improvements sound, LG G2 users won't be able to see them this month or the next. Android Pit's sources claim that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop won't be ready for the smartphone until after a couple of months. Phandroid says it will be a much longer wait for users in the U.S.

Unfortunately for other LG devices like the G3 and the G Flex 2, there is still no word if they will ever make the jump to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. If the LG G2 won't be able to upgrade in two months, then it will presumably be a longer wait for users of the said handsets.
