Has Amir Khan been erased as a possible opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr. this September? The British boxer doesn't seem to think so and is, in fact, still waiting for a possible chance to get his hands on the still undefeated boxer.
Khan's name seems to have been eased out of the equation when Mayweather mentioned a couple of names of opponents he would possibly face in September. Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield were mentioned, though many believe Mayweather was simply poking fun to silence the constant question thrown at him when he is seen in public.
Hope seems to spring eternal for Khan who is fasting as part of his annual Ramadan ritual. Will this affect Khan's conditioning and readiness to take on Mayweather?
Khan himself said it would hardly matter. His meal intake has been reduced from the daily five meals to just two a day. Will that difference in meal intake it not take away some of his strength during training and possibly in the fight, if ever he does gain the nod from Mayweather?
"If I get the big fight with Floyd Mayweather, I'll be more than ready for it. Ramadan is not going to make a difference!" declared Khan in an interview with BBC.
Khan has been following the fasting ritual since he was eight years old. Ramadan will end by July 17 or 18, and should he be picked to face Mayweather this coming September, the British boxer believes he will be 100% ready to take on the undefeated boxer who claims that the fight will be the last one in his storied career.
Whoever his opponent will be, Mayweather may be the one under more pressure. He has a goal in mind: winning that last match that will allow him to equalize the 49-0 feat of boxing legend Rocky Marciano.
If Khan is shunned yet again, there is no word on when he will fight. But one thing is for sure. Khan is unlikely to be interested in an undercard for that September match despite some suggestions that he could be a possible opponent for Errol Spence, a Mayweather protégé.
