British boxer Amir Khan is rumored to be the leading candidate for the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 12. But the Mayweather camp has yet to decide on whom the undefeated boxer will be facing in the ring.

Meantime, another name reportedly entering the mix is American Keith Thurman, an up and coming boxer who boasts of a 25-0 record, 21 of them by knockout. Like Khan, Thurman, the WBA welterweight champion, is calling on Mayweather to face him, though the undefeated American may simply be smirking at him right now.

Both Khan, the WBC Silver Welterweight champion, and Thurman now have something in common – Mayweather. And in the event that both do not get the nod to be Floyd's opponent on September 12, why not fight each other?

Thurman doesn't think highly of Khan and has called him a cherry picker. The feeling of disrespect is mutual. So is a fight between the two possible?

Khan has expressed interested in the idea. But before that, Thurman must first climb the ring to confront Luis Collazo, a former Khan foe, this Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.

Thurman is a heavy favorite  against the former champion, but the undefeated American boxer may need an impressive showing to set up a possible match with either Mayweather or Khan. In 2014, Khan won by unanimous decision over Collazo, so Thurman could be thinking of making a knockout happen to make a statement this Saturday.

On Thurman's chances against Mayweather, Khan's was quoted by boxingnewsonline.net as saying: "We've seen Mayweather in with guys who can punch like Marcos Maidana and [Saul] Canelo Alvarez and handle them, so I think the public wants to see something different. Styles make fights, and Floyd has seen Thurman's style before."
