'American Idol' reboot news: Britney Holmes gets Golden Ticket

The long-running reality singing competition, "American Idol," is already underway, with its new judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. A change of format occurred last Saturday, Nov. 19, wherein the show's host, Ryan Seacrest, announced that three singers did not make the final cut. However, they were eventually given a second chance, which was left for the public to decide and would be revealed on another television show, "Dancing With the Stars."

In a report by Variety, the person who got the coveted Golden Ticket and made it into the competition was 28-year-old Britney Holmes, a singing coach from Texas. The announcement was made by Richie himself. The audience has already spoken, and Holmes will get her chance to compete in one of the biggest singing competitions.

As reported by the Gold Derby, audiences only had a full day to think about who they would be helping get a Golden Ticket. Each judge got to vouch for their personal picks and even made an appeal to the audience to guide them on who to vote for.

This method of contestant selection was previously unseen for "American Idol" audiences. According to AoL, Seacrest announced last Saturday that the viewers would be given a chance to determine which contestant would be able to join the ranks of the tough competitors from all over the U.S. On that night, each contestant was introduced by each of the judges namely Perry, Richie, and Bryan.

This may have been a unique opportunity for the rest of the cast and crew involved in "American Idol," but sadly, there could only be one winner. In the end, Holmes proved victorious. However, this only sparked the beginning of a fierce and long competition.

The reboot of "American Idol" is set to air on March next year on ABC.
