Although fans of "American Horror Story" were shocked and baffled by the casting of pop sensation Lady Gaga in the new season of the FX anthology series, the cast is not at all surprised. Kathy Bates and the gang think that the singer's addition is plain perfect.

Talking to Variety, Finn Wittrock, who played the psychopath killer Dandy in "American Horror Story: Freak Show," enumerated the reasons Lady Gaga is just what "American Horror Story: Hotel" needs, admiring Murphy's move.

"I was like, 'Perfect!' Ryan [Murphy] always has a way of outdoing himself. It's hard to keep surprising people when each season is so surprising," the actor exclaimed. "He very wisely makes a big awesome casting choice to get people intrigued. This was the epitome of that."

He added that the surprise element and the shock value of having the "Paparazzi" singer on board is what will make season 5 a hit and fans glued at the edge of their seats, looking forward to what comes next.

"The thing about [Lady Gaga], with her great theatricality and the gratuity of her own image, it actually makes a lot of sense for her to be on this show," Wittrock said. "The show is heightened and gothic and that's sort of what she is. It's a good omen for the way the season will turn out."

Bates, on the other hand, basically said during their For Your Consideration panel that anyone who thinks Lady Gaga's inclusion in the series is a mistake is bonkers.

"Are you out of your mind?" she responded to an audience member who called the singer's casting "non-traditional." "It's perfect casting for this show!"

Lady Gaga is said to be headlining "American Horror Story: Hotel" but her role as well as those of the returning and new cast members have yet to be divulged. More information about the season is expected to be revealed next month.
