Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) was highly expected to come up with a response when NVIDIA had released their latest Pascal-based graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForece GTX 1080. The two companies are of course the top dogs when it comes to graphic card technology and both have since released devices that had countered what the other one was offering.

As of the moment, AMD has not yet released a competing product for NVIDIA's GTX 1080, but rumors are rife with speculation that the company may be revealing their most powerful product yet, the AMD Radeon RX 490.

A month ago, AMD was expected to unveil the RX 490 during its investor presentation event. The company; however, chose to talk about their most recent offerings, the RX 470 and the RX 480, instead. Some industry insiders had then concluded that their dodging of the subject might be a hint that the RX 490 could be part of their next generation Vega-based product launch.

Since the launch of the GTX 1080, all eyes were on AMD to come up with a product that could rival its performance, and according to some new leaks, the RX 490 could be the answer.

Some new leaks have recently come to light (via videocardz.com) which points to the upcoming RX 490 as quite the performer. According to the leak, the RX 490 will be capable of supporting full 4K gaming as well as running VR applications. The leaked specs also reveal that it will have a computing power of 9830 GigaFlops and have 16384 MB of useable memory. The GPU is also said to come with 716.8 GB of memory bandwidth and a 4096-bit memory bus. Aside from the specs, the GPU is also rumored to be coming with AMD's second generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) feature.

As of the moment, AMD has not yet confirmed any of the leaks or rumors. The device; however; is expected to be announced later this year, with a possible release date sometime during the first half of 2017.
