50 Shades of Grey movie cast: Henry Cavill best contender? Ian Somerhalder will not be Christian Grey, E.L. James tells fans

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie of the best-selling book of the same name has already been given a release date, but the cast still remains unknown.

The film adaptation E.L. James best-selling book will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson adapted into screenplay by Kelly Marcel.

Rumors as to who will play 27-year-old Christian Grey, the powerful billionaire who falls in love with 22-year-old Anastasia Steele, have been swirling since the movie was given the green light.

Rumors for the role of Grey include fan favorite Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, and Henry Cavill.

However, latest reports suggest that the "Vampire Diaries" star will not be landing the role of Grey, who is a character described as having "unruly dark-copper-colored hair and intense, bright gray eyes."

The author was reportedly telling fans at Comic-Con last week that Somerhalder will not get the part, despite the actor expressing interest in the role. "Everyone has to realize every guy in Hollywood is up for this role," he told Metro Online. "It could be anyone – that's how that goes."

In other rumors, actor Garrett Hedlund has reportedly turned down the offer to play the part, according to Us Weekly.
Top rumored contenders for Anastasia Steele, Grey's lover, are Alexis Biedel, Emma Watson, and Mila Kunis.

The 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie will be produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. The movie is expected to be NC-17 rated and will be released August 1, 2014.

Focus Features announced on June: "The global release of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' will start in North America on Friday, August 1st, 2014 with opening dates around the world to be announced. The Focus Features domestic theatrical release will be in theaters nationwide. Universal Pictures International is releasing the movie in the rest of the world."

The "Fifty Shades" erotic trilogy (50 Shades of Grey, 50 Shades Darker, 50 Shades Freed), written by British author E.L. James, has become one of the best-selling books of all time.
