'Zelda' Wii U release date: Nintendo delays launch to 2015

Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U has become one of the most highly anticipated titles within the gaming world.

The version has been expected to include a "broader, open world," similar to titles like "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and "Grand Theft Auto V" in which players are given the choice to "randomly roam along the countryside" and come across "randomized activities."

However, according to director and producer Eiji Aonuma, he plans on taking on a different approach.

"Since we're talking about open worlds, let's state upfront that we don't plan to have an open world in the same way other companies have been doing in recent years," Aonuma said to Edge Magazine.

Aonuma has also hoped for "The Legends of Zelda" to perform well on its own as it faces competition aganist "Hyrule Warriors" to be released on Sept. 26. He further explained how the "Hyrule Warriors" helped develop the "Zelda" game for Wii U, and how important it is to make remarkable cut-scenes for the game.

"Looking at the comments on Miiverse regarding Hyrule Warriors, it's been great to see a lot of positive feedback," Aonuma has been quoted as saying. "But one of the things that leaves me with rather complicated feelings is that people are saying, 'Oh wow, I really love the cutscenes in this game! This is better than the stuff Nintendo does!' Of course, that leaves me a little conflicted, and gives me a mission now to make sure that the new Zelda game that I'm working on can hold its own in that aspect against Hyrule Warriors!"

"The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U had been slotted for a premiere date in 2015.  Other titles that are slated to come out next year include "Splatoon," "Yoshi's Woolly World," "Mario Maker," and "Project Giant," expectedin the first half of 2015; as well as "Kirby and the Rainbow Curse," "Project Guard," "Star Fox," and "Xenoblade Chronicles X" to follow in the latter part of the year.
