Xiaomi Mi TV 2 specs, price: 40-inch HD TV for $320

Xiaomi Mi TV 2 from @Xiaomi Official Twitter Account

Xiaomi is a brand name that will immediately be associated with high spec mobile phones, referring of course to their Xiaomi Redmi and Mi product lines. With the success that Xiaomi has garnered from such, it seems that the company is planning to up the stakes on another product line – HDTVs.

Pricing has been surprisingly affordable for their smartphone line and it looks like the same pricing strategy will be followed by their TV manufacturing group for the Xiaomi Mi TV 2. Can you imagine an HDTV for just $320?

Initial rumors hinted that there would be two TV variants coming out, a 4K TV and a FHD. It turns out that the rumor was half-baked in a sense since only a 40-inch full HD TV surfaced.

Though there is no word if that 4K TV is actually true, the fact that 4K content is not readily available for now could be one of the reasons. Hence, it would be best to leave that rumor open since you never know if 4K would suddenly come out and explode.

With regards to the 40-inch full HD TV set, it will feature a LED panel made by Sharp. The screen will boast of a 5,000:1 contrast ratio and will be amply be powered by a Cortex-A9 quad core CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz.

Further specs reveal that the Xiaomi 40-inch full HD Mi TV2 will also be supported by 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage and H.265 10-bit hardware which would allow users to watch videos in H.265, H.264, MPEG4, and REAL video formats.

The $320 price tag is certainly tempting but like the Xiaomi roster of phones, getting hold of one could be hard since it doesn't look like they will be sold outside China.
