Xiaomi Mi 5 features: Flagship to get fingerprint scanner

 Twitter

The long overdue Xiaomi Mi 5 finds itself in the middle of rumor mills again, thanks to a tip that hints at a particular feature it will allegedly boast. A report out of Weibo claiming that the flagship will don a fingerprint scanner has come to light.

While talks about the device getting such biometric technology, which majority of high-end releases almost always have, have already made their way to the cybersphere, this report is special in the sense that it comes from someone who claims has knowledge on what Xiaomi does behind the scenes.

But as always, unless the China-based manufacturer itself says so, it is best to take the report with a pinch of salt. But for a flagship like Xiaomi Mi 5, media outlets expect that by default, the smartphone, whose predecessor released in July 2014, should boast such feature.

Just weeks ago, there was a leaked image that hinted the Xiaomi Mi 5 is getting a fingerprint scanner. More recent reports speculate that the handset will finally show up on Monday, Oct. 20. Unfortunately, this one was already debunked by Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin.

Instead, users can expect the company to announce its plans to expand its portfolio with smartwatches, laptops and even flat panel televisions. Bin was keen not to hint anything about the much-awaited flagship.

But as rumors go, Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to come in a 5.3-inch Quad HD display, 4 GB RAM, 16-GB and 64-GB storage options, a 16-MP rear-facing shooter, a 6-MP front-facing camera and a 3030-mAh battery.

To top it all off, the device is said to get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 for a processor. If this is the case, the smartphone won't make an appearance until early next year as devices with the spanking new chipset won't be out and about until that time frame.
