Xiaomi Mi 5 release date, specs rumors: Analyst says flagship will be out by end of year

Xiaomi Mi 4, the current lineup of Mi smart phones Xiaomi

Xiaomi Mi 5 is already overdue. It's been more than a year since the Chinese tech firm released the Xiaomi Mi 4. But according to electronic industry analyst Pan Jiutang, the much-awaited flagship is coming really soon – in December specifically – and it is coming with full force.

According to GSMArena, the analyst is claiming that Xiaomi will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor unit on its forthcoming smartphone. Previously, Jiutang forecasted that devices with the all-new chipset won't be out until March 2016, but he seems to have changed his mind.

Jiutang believes that Xiaomi Mi 5 will be the first device to don the new-generation processor when it is made official in two months.

The device has been leaked multiple times. An alleged teaser for the device leaked earlier this month even had many thinking that the smartphone is close to being unveiled. Nonetheless, if Jiutang got this one right, fans of the so-called Apple of China can expect a very powerful flagship from the company before the year ends.

It has long been speculated that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. This belief was fortified when an alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 unit stopped by a benchmark test, where it generated an insane score of 73,075 points.

A teaser image believed to be made of the Xiaomi Mi 5 also surfaced earlier this month. It hinted that the smartphone will feature a fingerprint scanner. As for the rest of the specs, media outlets and tipsters are at variance.

The device is said to get a 5.2-inch or 5.3-inch Quad HD display. It is expected to offer 4 GB of RAM with 16-GB and 32-GB storage spaces to choose from. A 64-GB model is purportedly being prepared, too. All these variants are said to run Android 5.1.1. Lollipop.

The camera on the back is reportedly a 16-MP unit, while an 8-MP camera will serve as the selfie snapper. It is expected to sport a USB Type-C port as well.
