Microsoft has finally announced its free games to be put forward in January for Xbox Live with Gold members. Previously, the titanic software firm hinted on its February games and skipped clues for the month of January. This prompted gamers to make a list of titles they wish to get at no cost as the new year opens up. But will the company fulfill them?

For the whole month of January, Xbox One users will get to enjoy Hidetaka Suehiro's indie episodic video game called "D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die" or simply "D4." This adventure game, which was developed by Access Games and was released in September 2014, follows Boston private detective David Young who seeks to stop his wife's murder from happening by going back in time. The game is praised for its distinct characteristics, displaying elements that are a breath of fresh air for gamers and critics alike. The title is usually purchased for $14.99.

Xbox 360 players have two awesome treats to facilitate the launch of their 2015 gaming. In the first half of January, THQ Digital Phoenix's 2011 off-road racing game "MX vs. ATV Alive" will be on offer. Regularly sold for $19.99, this game can be downloaded and played for free from Jan. 1 to 15. Come the latter half of the month, the motocross game will no longer be given out for free but the critically acclaimed action role-playing video game "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings" will take its place. Without charge, Xbox 360 gamers will enjoy slashing and destroying monsters as they take the role of Geralt of Rivia. Available from Jan. 16 to 31, the offer for the biggest title of the bunch saves players $29.99.

In the mean time, Xbox One players can feast on strategy simulation game "Worms Battlegrounds" before the month of December winds into a close. Xbox 360 players can use the remaining days of 2014 for getting and playing Electronic Arts' snowboarding game "SSX."
