With a "Watch Dogs" sequel on the way, it looks like Microsoft is making an effort to familiarize fans with the game's hacking world just in time for the second installment by offering the original as one of the free games for Xbox Games with Gold this October.
There are rumors going around that the open world action-adventure third-person shooter will be offered as a freebie as a way to promote "Watch Dogs 2," which will be released on Nov. 15.
However, there is no confirmation about that yet as well as information that will make sense of the reason Microsoft is marketing the game via Xbox Games with Gold for October when it will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro as well.
Needless to say, with a title as high-profile as "Watch Dogs," Xbox Games with Gold subscribers will definitely be happy getting to experience the game without shelling out a cent.
Released in 2014, "Watch Dogs" follows the exploits of gray hat hacker and vigilante Aiden Pearce, who seeks to find justice for his niece who was killed by the people intent on killing him.
The game received a rating of 4 out of 5 on Metacritic while GameSpot gave it a score of 8 out of 10. Much of the praise was geared towards the stellar hacking elements it offered gamers.
Apart from "Watch Dogs," another purported Xbox Games with Gold free game for October is "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag," which suggests that Microsoft is going big next month.
If this will be the case, the action-adventure video game will be the second premium title to be added in the Xbox Games with Gold free game lineup.
"Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag" is another highly-regarded game, which received a positive reception from critics and gamers alike. Giving it away for free will give fans the impression that Microsoft means business.
The third offering for Xbox Games with Gold next month is said to be "Iron Man 2," an action-adventure game loosely based on the film of the same name starring Robert Downey Jr.
This month's free games for Xbox Games with Gold members include "Forza Horizon," "Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China," "Earthlock: Festival of Magic," and "Mirror's Edge." The last three are still available to download for free.
