George R.R. Martin's fans have proven themselves to be the most patient fanbase there is as they continue to endure the long wait for another masterpiece from their favorite author. And with his writing energy fully restored, the bestselling author might be close to finishing his novel "Winds of Winter."
Martin has always been deliberate in refusing to succumb to a deadline. But now that the direction of the wind has changed, the launch of "Winds of Winter" might have finally drawn dramatically nearer. For this, fans have "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to thank.
As per Hollywood Life, cited by iDigital Times, the trailer for the movie excited Martin as a fan. In light of this moment, the author stepped into a fan's shoes and quickly felt all the anticipation and patience his own fans may be putting up with, just to get their hands on "Winds of Winter" as early as possible.
"He was really excited about the Star Wars trailer and knows that people will feel the same way once his book is out," a source said via iDigital Times. "He finally looked into things as a fan and not as a writer. The trailer opened up something he has been missing lately, the wonderment of everything is making his creative juices flow again. He is determined to have the new book out and ready for 2015."
Martin was not able to work entirely on "Winds of Winter" because of his hectic schedule. Ever since his novels skyrocketed to fame, especially when HBO made them into an epic series called "Game of Thrones," he had to do interviews and appearances in all parts of the world. He had to go to a different country or arena just to answer the same questions about his work. This drained and sidetracked him.
"Writer's block isn't to blame here, it's distraction. In recent years, all of the work I've been doing creates problems because it creates distraction," Martin explained during the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival in October. "Because the books and the show are so popular I have interviews to do constantly. I have travel plans constantly. It's like suddenly I get invited to travel to South Africa or Dubai, and who's passing up a free trip to Dubai?"
Moreover, his writing seems to be at his utmost when at home. It won't be as undisturbed as it was before though, now that he is a big man in the writing world today. But in the end, if the rumor is indeed true, then it only takes a good old Lucasfilm teaser to get his storytelling engines up and running. And with Martin now all-out in finishing up "Winds of Winter," a 2015 release has just become more feasible.
