George R.R. Martin is still working on "The Winds of Winter," the book that fans can't wait to read. Well, there is good news and bad. The novel will not be coming out this year (most everyone knows that already) but the 67-year-old bestselling author has given fans a sneak peek of the much-awaited sixth volume of the award-winning "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

Just recently, Martin posted an excerpt from the book on his blog. Just to give a glimpse while not being too spoilery about the 6700-word excerpt, it would not hurt to reveal that the treasured piece was written in the point of view of Sansa Stark.

In the course of the chapter, fans are reminded that the eldest daughter of House Stark is disguised as Alayne Stone. She is in the Eyrie with Petyr Baelish and the sickly Arryn son, Lord Robert. Ultimately, the excerpt is all about Sansa's deceptive ways.

Here is how the extract from "The Winds of Winter" begins:

She was reading her little lord a tale of the Winged Knight when Mya Stone came knocking on the door of his bedchamber, clad in boots and riding leathers and smelling strongly of the stable.

"Mya had straw in her hair and a scowl on her face. That scowl comes of having Mychel Redfort near, Alayne knew."

As for the publication of the entire book, Martin has not specified a release date. He, however, is working ardently to finish it no later than it already is. He has renounced his script writing stint for season 6 of "Game of Thrones" and other stuff to focus on "The Winds of Winter."

Speaking of the HBO series, the showrunners will be spoiling the print version of "A Song of Ice and Fire" as the TV adaptation will undoubtedly overtake the book series.
