Windows 10 Xbox App made available to testers; More features expected with formal release

 IGN

The Xbox on Windows application is still months away from release but if you want to see what it will look like, Microsoft is accommodating testers to try out the Windows 10 Xbox app.

The Microsoft team has focused on the basic things for the app. That includes support for high resolution desktop monitors, keyboards and mouse. More features are expected to follow until the app is formally released later this year.

And apparently, a lot of the additional features will be catered according to user feedback.

For the ones who want to be a tester, they will have to sign up with Microsoft's Insider Program. Just in case, here is a link where folks can join.

So what is in store for testers with the Windows 10 Xbox app? Here are some of the things to expect.

First off is of course Your Profile. This will contain a user's Xbox profile, activities and achievements and some game clips which one has recorded.

Then there is the Home which is a place where users can gain quick access to recently played games, recent activities, their friends and online status.

There will also be Messages, where you see messages from the system or other users.

And of course there is the Settings which allow you to check the current Version number of your Xbox on Windows app.

Here, you can toggle the following features on/off. That includes:

  • Live tile. This allows you to display the number of friends online, unread messages and activity alerts.
  • Notifications for Favorite online (your friends)
  • Twitch broadcast Notifications to see when your friends start broadcasting
  • Message Notification when one of your friends messages you.

These are the things to expect for testers and while mostly are basic features one would find on any console or app, new features that would depend on feedback are bound to be added to the months leading to the official release.
