Unlike its desktop version, the new mobile platform by Microsoft will have select updates once the new Windows 10 Mobile rolls out.
According to industry insider CNET, Microsoft issued a statement about the updates. The tech giant will be working closely with different mobile operators that will carry Windows 10-run mobile devices and will use their feedback to build updates. However, Microsoft will be the one to "decide when to send the updates out based on input from mobile operators and Windows Insiders."
The report also suggested that this different approach by Microsoft is to stave off any delays when updating its mobile platform. For some users, this is a welcome change from what has been one of the main issues for updates to another mobile platform, Google's Android OS.
When Google introduces a new platform or an update to its current one, there is a different set of tests done by both smartphone manufacturers and mobile carriers. The process takes some time, and the delay for the new platform build causes Android users to wait weeks and even months before they can see over-the-air updates for their devices.
Meanwhile, to set the stage for the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft held an event in Japan. The convention also held an announcement on upcoming Windows 10 Mobile-run devices. As reported by industry follower Phone Arena, Microsoft Japan president Takuya Hirano said that there will be additional Windows 10 Mobile-run devices other than the new Lumias. Some of the companies mentioned include VAIO, Acer, NuAns, and Freetel.
Some of the companies even brought their prototypes to the event. NuAns already had its consumer version NEO, and showcased a unit at the convention. Meanwhile, Acer highlighted its already-announced Liquid M330. This handset, with midrange specs, is expected to be out in the market before the year ends.
