The Windows 10 Preview Build 14316 was recently released to Fast Ring Insider members and it includes features that were discussed during Microsoft's Build Conference 2016.  Among them are Bash, Cortana cross-device features, updated extensions for the Edge browser, updated Emoji, personalization improvements and a few more.

Gabe Aul, corporate vice president of Microsoft, shared through his regular blog post the announcement about the latest build.

Starting with Build 14316, Linux programmers can start using Bash.  This is Ubuntu running on Windows.  Developer mode must be enabled first in order to run Bash on Ubuntu.  Additional reading information is available in a separate post dedicated for this.

Meanwhile, Cortana will be offering more assistance than ever before.  The digital assistant will be keeping track of all Cortana-enabled devices, such as Windows 10 machines and Windows 10 or Android mobile phones.  Cortana can notify a user if their mobile phone is low on battery power, in which a message will pop-up on the PC.  One can also use the "Find my Phone/Ring my phone" functionality that keeps track of the geo-location of the phone as well as ring the phone if a user loses sight of it.

Map direction sharing between devices is easier now than before, as well as setting up Cortana to other devices.

Build 14316 also brings several more extensions to Microsoft Edge.  It now includes Pin It Button and OneNote Clipper, while additional enhancements were made to Reddit Entertainment Suite, Microsoft Translator and Mouse Gestures.

Action Center improvements were implemented as well.  These include the ability to prioritize notifications, and allow a user to set three immediate notifications per app.  Users can also manage the settings per individual app.

Other additional improvements include:

  • Emoji
  • Personalization, dark and light mode is now available
  • Virtual desktop improvements
  • Battery settings
  • Windows update settings
  • Feedback hub

New features available with the latest build include:

  • PC access experience via the new Connect app
  • Update Progress Experience

Fix for previous known issues were also included in Build 14316.  These are:

  • Audio and trackpad issues with TPM chips (Asus ZEnbook UX31)
  • Hyper-V indicator issue
  • Text alignment on the Wi-Fi's UI
  • Windows Explorer crashing during multiple monitor scenario
  • "Update and Restart" and "Update and Shut Down" will not start an update.

There are several more issues that were given remedy with the latest build.  For the full documentation, one can read the blog post.
