Nexus 5 to get Android 5.2 build; to skip Android 5.1 Lollipop?

The LG Nexus 5 may be donning the latest of Google's newest operating system soon. There are new leaks claiming that the 2013 smartphone was seen running a fresh and unannounced Android 5.2 Lollipop build in one Geekbench test. Although the Nexus 5 is not that far behind like most handsets (it currently runs Android 5.0.1 Lollipop), the handset is likely to get the newer build of the firmware earlier than others. Nexus devices were the ones at the forefront when Lollipop was initially given out.

The Nexus 5 was also spotted running the Android 5.1 Lollipop in a separate Geekbench test. Even Android One devices in the Philippines and in Indonesia supported 5.1, according to International Business Times. So is the Nexus 5 close to sporting the newer version?

There were rumors that this version will be out by February but for the device to don a newer Android 5.2 Lollipop is the bigger bombshell here. This only implies that Google may be working on a newer build of its software and it makes sense that a Nexus device such as the Nexus 5 will be the smartphone they will test it on.

Android Open Source Project development is there but its reach is only up to the Android 5.0.2 version of Lollipop. This makes Android 5.2 a bigger release than the ones that came before it. It may come along with a major bug fix or bring in a brand new feature.

Still, some media outlets warn that this may just be a ploy from some Android developers who just want to mess with fans that are at the edge of their seats for the update. But if Google is indeed building the Android 5.2 Lollipop, then it will most likely have Nexus devices skip version 5.1. For now, the Android community has to wait and see what tricks Google has up its sleeves.
