We can 'change the world by praying for Hollywood'

Hollywood can be changed for the better; this is what fim producer Karen Covell believes as she embarks on a prayer campaign for it.

In an interview with Assist News, Covell said that Christians should pray for Hollywood because "everything that comes out of Hollywood touches people all across the globe and we need to pray for those decision makers; those talents and cultural influencers, who are touching people groups all over the world."

"I believe there's a spiritual battle going on and that why the church either hates Hollywood or is afraid of it. And I want people to pray against the enemy from stopping us and realising we can change the world by praying for Hollywood," she added.

Covell is the co-owner of Joint Effort, a film production company she started with her husband Jim of JC Productions, a music production company. She also founded the Hollywood Prayer Network, which urges people not to boycott Hollywood, but instead pray for the entertainment industry.

Covell said in the interview that she had her feet in two different places when she started out in Hollywood. "I had one in the church world as a Christian, and also a foot in Hollywood as a professional; and neither worlds liked each other very much at all," she shared.

It was especially difficult for her because she went to work without any support from her church, because they strongly believed that what Hollywood is doing is simply wrong.

"I realised that this had to change," said Covell. "So we started a prayer group some 32 years ago and that continues today. Eight people were part of it at first, and we just started praying for each other and for other people and interceding for the industry. And as the time went on, I thought, we need more than just us praying. We need people on the outside also praying."

She then realised that the only solution to make the two worlds have peace with each other was through prayer; Covell reasoned that "if you pray for someone, you can't hate them."

Aside from that, Covell also wants to pray for Christians who are trying their luck in Hollywood, since they rarely get support from their church, thus creating a difficult balance between their work life and faith. She also wanted to pray for the non-believers in Hollywood, or the people who make "big decisions" that ultimately influences the rest of the world.
