The British historical drama television series "Victoria" just returned to U.S. airwaves with its second season premiere. Created and written by Diana Goodwin, the fans of the first season may be pleased to know that the second season will not disappoint in terms of the show's plot development.

Season 2 starts out with a two-hour long episode. Queen Victoria, who is played by Jenna Coleman, has been sidelined from her duty as monarch of England shortly after giving birth to her daughter, and naturally needs to take a considerable amount of time off to heal from her wounds -- with Prince Albert, played by Tom Hughes, taking over temporarily while the Queen recuperates.

As Queen Victoria attempts to regain her strength, Prince Albert finds the responsibility of ruling over a nation to be quite enjoyable, and may have some difficuly returning the post to Queen Victoria when she is healthy. Naturally, being the assertive Queen that she is, she will force her way into getting back to work, by cutting her rest period much shorter than initially anticipated -- and also effectively cutting Prince Albert's reign short.

The Queen will be relieved to be back to work, but she will find herself pregnant once more before the season is over.

On a side note, Buckingham Palace's employees, Mr. Francatelli, played by Ferdinand Kingsley, and Mrs. Skerrett, played by Nell Hudson confront each other during the premiere, to clarify each others' stance regarding their flirtatious interactions, which fans witnessed last season. Mrs. Skerrett has already professed her love for Mr. Francatelli, but he has moved on to other things after leaving his previous post as the Buckingham Palace chef.

Diana Rigg, popularly known as Lady Olenna Tyrell from HBO's "Game of Thrones," will be making an appearance in season 2 as Duchess of Buccleuch, hired by Queen Victoria as mistress of the robes. The two strong female personalities will find themselves clashing more often than not.

"Victoria" season 2 premieres Sunday, Jan. 14, at 9 p.m. EST on PBS.
