LG G3 gets Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update on Verizon network

Verizon LG G3 subscribers will finally receive the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OS update following other carriers' initiative in rolling it out to their respective devices. The largest U.S. carrier has not officially updated its support page, but some subscribers confirmed that they already received the new operating system.

Verizon users should receive a notification for the Over-The-Air update, but if none is received, they can check Settings > System updates > Check for new system update > Check now to see if their handset is up for the OS upgrade. Users are always reminded that the smartphone should be updated via Wi-Fi network to prevent astronomical data charges and has at least 50 percent battery juice.

Android 5.0 is the biggest Android software update so far, accounting for 600 MB in file size. It brings with it a long list of additional features, including a new user interface coined as Material Design. Apart from an updated look, the Android OS also brings improved features like camera shortcuts, lock screen notifications, and security.

AT&T and Sprint previously released the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OS update to their respective handsets. The update has a software version number VS98523A. However, some users are reportedly complaining about bugs and issues that remain unfixed in the OS. Several LG G3 users said that they are suffering from quick battery drain as well as performance and apps issues. In addition, refreshing the software allegedly affects the notification system of the handset.

Android 5.0 Lollipop OS was announced in July last year and was rolled out in November. The firmware was plagued with bugs and issues, and Google has yet to roll out a more stable and bug-free update.
