HTC One M8, M7: Verizon to roll out Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update in March?

Verizon has been known to trail behind when it comes to rolling out new Android updates compared to other U.S. carriers. While other networks are now seeding the newest firmware to the HTC One (M8) and One (M7), Verizon will follow suit next month.

HTC's vice president of product management Mo Versi confirmed via Twitter that the new Android OS update will arrive on previous HTC One smartphones. The HTC executive responded to a query in the microbogging site divulging information about the latest status of the Android software for Verizon users. According to Versi, the firmware will be available in the first week of March as it is still in the "lab."

The HTC official suggested that the company is still working on the software. Since Versi did not drop a specific version of the software, some people are speculating that the U.S. carrier will roll out the Android 5.1 version of the operating system since that version of Lollipop has been spotted in some devices like the Android One. However, most bets are on the 5.0 version of the OS.

When Google officially released the Android 5.0 OS update, HTC swore to roll out the update to its respective devices within 90 days. The Taiwanese company made significant effort in doing what it promised, but was unable to cover all variants of the HTC One (M8) and (M7) within the 90-day period.

It is understandable that not all HTC One (M8) devices will receive the update at once. The software will most likely come in waves until all variants receive it.

Meanwhile, the same HTC executive previously confirmed that the company has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update to HTC One (M7).

"HTC One (M7) Unlocked and Dev owners! Enjoy the Lollipop update! OTA has been released. #HTCAdvantage," his Twitter post reads.

The latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update will bring forth major changes to the smartphones since it is the biggest Android update. It will deliver an overall new user interface dubbed as Material Design. Moreover, performance, notifications, and security of the handset are significantly improved.
