With the upcoming Vive VR headset and fans still clamoring for details about the fabled third installment of "Half-Life," most observers in the gaming community are expecting game giant Valve to make an appearance at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. However, it seems that the gaming industry will instead wait a little bit more on details about on-going Valve projects, since the company will not be making it to this year's E3 event.
According to reports, Valve has already announced that it will not be making an appearance nor hold meetings or conferences at the E3 event, one of the most-anticipated annual conventions in the gaming industry.
However, this doesn't mean that there would be no Valve presence at the trade show. Since some of the company's partners would most likely be appearing at the event, fans and observers might get some bits and pieces of Valve info. For example, one of the most likely focus of this year's E3 is virtual reality gaming, and as one of the frontrunners on VR hardware, Valve and HTC's Vive VR headset might be presented by some of the VR developer companies. However, the presentation might not be the full-featured experience that gamers interested in VR playing are expecting. The Vive VR headsets currently available are only developer editions, and the consumer equivalent will be released either at the end of the year or early next year.
Glossing over major events and conferences, especially the E3, is not new for Valve. The last time that the gaming giant took to the stage was when CEO Gabe Newell announced "Portal 2" back in 2010. In addition, with Valve already holding the reins of Steam, one of the biggest gaming platforms, the company can instantly connect with gamers all over the world any time, without any need for major events participation.
