'Uncharted 4' release date update: Game gets different name in Japan

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Naughty Dog

Fans know Naughty Dog's upcoming action-adventure third-person shooter video game as "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" but once it reaches Japan, gamers will call it "The Pirate & the Last Treasure."

After Sony Japan updated its listing for the game, its name was changed to what Reddit users feel is something taken from "One Piece," a manga series that follows the fortune-hunting adventures of a buccaneer named Luffy.

While fans and gamers wonder why the game's title was changed, one Reddit user that goes by the name Gerolux may have the answer.

"The Japanese subtitle is the premise for a manga called One Piece. In One Piece, the previous pirate king left a vast fortune to be found. Whoever finds it will become the pirate king," the Reddit user explained to enlighten baffled users that made the social networking and news website go wild.

Aside from inducing confusion, the title also strengthened speculations that the game will bring the last of Nathan Drake's exploits and at the same time make "One Piece" and "Uncharted" fans very happy.

No other explanation was provided and neither Sony nor Naughty Dog has said a word about the game's complete name change in Japan. On the other hand, new details about the game will be showcased during the Electronic Entertainment Expo scheduled on June 16 to 18. Perhaps during that time, this big name change will be further discussed.

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" follows Nathan Drake's return to fortune-hunting after a dormant adventure-free life. Together with his brother Sam, Nathan will set off in a globe-trotting journey to locate a pirate treasure left behind in a long lost pirate colony. The game is set to be released in the first or second quarter of 2016.
