When a TV show debuts with much success, the usual reaction is to try to keep the show going longer. With "True Detective," this isn't going to be the case. It's not like there won't be any material for more seasons since every season has a new story — it's just writer Nic Pizzolato's preference.

At the Banff World Media Festival, Pizzolatto boldly admitted that he will only do three seasons of the show and he's done with it.

"I can't imagine I would do this more than three years. I mean, I'd like to have a regular TV show. We'll have some fixed sets, regular actors and I could bring in people to help and I don't have to be there every second. It'd be great," Pizzolatto told a reporter.

He further explained, "It can't have any growing pains like a regular first season. If it works, it has to work right out of the box. That's incredibly exhausting. I mean, the job is exhausting to begin with, but it's doubly exhausting and I'm writing every episode."

Pizzolatto has done great work with "True Detective" so far.  Season 1, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, received positive reviews and numerous accolades. Their screen presence was uncanny and it brought the HBO TV Series huge success. It was no surprise that an order for Season 2 was made quickly.

Season 2 of "True Detective" is already underway. It will focus on three lead roles to be played by Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams. Vince Vaughn will take on the role of a criminal who gets entangled in a conspiracy.

And there's another name joining the cast. From "True Blood" to "True Detective," Ashely Hinshaw will play a character who is described to be "a troubled starlet," reports Deadline.

It's sad to know that Pizzolato has no intentions of creating more seasons after the third, but of course, there's always the chance of the writer changing his mind.

"True Detective" season 2 will air around summer of 2015.
