'True Detective' season 2 episode 1 'The Western Book of the Dead'

The highly-anticipated HBO crime drama anthology "True Detective" season 2 is set to premiere Jun. 21 and in proper Nic Pizzolato fashion, the season will welcome fans with a gruesome murder, which will ultimately bring its indubitably astral cast together on a dark new ride.

Colin Ferrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams team up as law enforcement agents to solve the killing of a Californian politician who has something to do with Vince Vaughn's character Frank Seymon, who is reeling his estate away from bankruptcy in a legitmate way after building it up with criminality.

Just like the persons after him, Frank is challenged with his inner demons, a horrible past and a crooked system, which he so willfully took advantage of. Apparently, his way to legitimacy is rocky with the murder being the first bump.

"True Detective" season 2 is set in a fictional town in California called Vinci, a place where transportation industry is deemed the best venue for corruption. There won't be occult in this season but Pizzolato made it sure that there will be enough action, violence and dark characters in it.

According to Time, the addition of McAdams and Vaughn, who are known for their comedic prowess, do nothing in making the show buoyant, which what "True Detective" should never be. Furthermore, the inclusion of the former is seen as the solidification of the woman power in the show and is looked forward to by many.

On the technical side of things, several directors worked on the episodes for "True Detective" season 2 after Emmy Award winning season 1 helmer Cary Fukunaga left the gig. Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious), Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones) and Dan Attias (The Wire) all shared the director's seat.

"True Detective" season 2 episode 1 titled "The Western Book of the Dead" will air on Jun. 21 on HBO. Alternatively, it can be watched online through live stream with HBO GO.
